One Direction WiN MTV Hottest!

One Direction have been crowned the winners of MTV's Hottest Summer Superstar for the second year running.

The group amassed over 56.3 million votes to top the social media-driven music poll, with the results revealed in a live top 20 special.

Louis Tomlinson of the group said: "We are absolutely over the moon and we realise that obviously we couldn't do this without you so thank you so much for all your votes - you guys are the best fans in the world."

5 Seconds of Summer were in fifth place with 18.4 million votes, Lady Gaga was fourth with 25 million votes and Lana Del Rey was the highest scoring female singer and came in third place with 27 million votes.

Justin Bieber just missed out on winning the competition, with his fans giving him 47.4 million votes.

One Direction Named Top Global Artists

One Direction were the most popular global recording artists of 2013, outperforming Eminem, Katy Perry and Justin Timberlake, the first complete analysis of digital downloads, streaming and physical sales has found.

International trade body IFPI named the UK boyband Global Recording Artists of 2013, a newly-created award, following the success of their third studio album Midnight Memories, which contained the hit singles "Best Song Ever" and "Story of My Life".

The album topped the Billboard Top 200, making One Direction the first group ever to debut at No 1 in the US with its first three albums. It also topped the charts in countries from Australia to the UK.

The video for "Best Song Ever" attracted almost 200 million views on YouTube and "Story of My Life"’s video recorded more than 100 million views. The band’s music was also heavily streamed on services such as Deezer and Spotify.

Frances Moore, chief executive of IFPI, said: “Many congratulations to One Direction who topped a talented field to become the IFPI Global Recording Artists of 2013.

“This is a global IFPI award for a new era of music consumption, based on a new metric of global success. Our chart for the first time measures the popularity of artists across the many different ways in which fans choose their music.”

One Direction are tipped to win the Global Success Brit award, given to the UK artists which has achieved the greatest international sales, for the second-year running at tonight’s Brit Award ceremony.

One Direction BRIT Nominees

Louis Tomlinson has become the first member of One Direction to tweet about the group's double whammy of nominations at the 2014 BRIT Awards.

The boyband have been selected for the Best British Group category, and are automatically nominated in the Best British Single field for having one of the ten best-selling tunes of UK origin in 2013 - even if it was 'One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks)'.

Louis wrote excitedly: "Can't believe we have been nominated for TWO Brits !! Unbelievable :)".

In the Group category, the band have stiff competition in the forms of Arctic Monkeys, Bastille, Disclosure and Rudimental. As for the Single prize, their nine competitors include Bastille, Disclosure and Rudimental again, plus Ellie Goulding with Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding on her own, John Newman, Naughty Boy, Olly Murs and Passenger.

The quintet have been nominated for three BRITs in the past, and won two. In 2012, 'What Makes You Beautiful' won the Single prize, and last year they were honoured with a specially tailored Global Success trophy for all their achievements internationally.

They did, however, lose out on British Group at the hands of Mumford & Sons.

Louis and bandmates Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Harry Styles are currently enjoying a well-deserved break, before they embark on yet another manic year. In 2014 they will hit the road once more on a mammoth stadium tour, and their fourth LP is also due before Christmas.

Get that rest in while you can, boys..

One Direction Win 2 MTV EMA Awards!

One Direction win Best Pop at MTV EMA awards and Harry Styles wins Best Look

Unfortunately, none of the boys could make it to the event to pick their awards up

It's been a very good year for our favourite boyband.

And One Direction have proved that their successful streak is far from over.

The floppy-haired boys picked up the award for Best Pop at the MTV EMA Awards this evening.

Unfortunately, after spending so much time away on their Take Me Home tour, the boys couldn't make it to the ceremony.

We were quite sad - we'd have really enjoyed seeing them in their matching outfits on the black carpet .

Harry Style also won a sparkly award all of his own.

The mousey-haired heartthrob, who was spotted at Alexa Chung's 30th birthday bash on Friday night, won Best Look.

And we can understand why. He really does look very good indeed...
