One Direction Four Tops The Charts!

One Direction have gone straight to number one in the UK albums chart with their fourth studio collection FOUR. The five-piece sold 142,000 copies of their new record in its first week of release, making it their third consecutive chart-topping album. Their last album, 2013's Midnight Memories, was the biggest-selling release of that year.

Ed Sheeran spends a 22nd week in the top ten with x, which climbs one place to number two, while Sam Smith's In The Lonely Hour also rises one place to number three.

Last week's number one album, Pink Floyd's The Endless River, drops three places into number four, while the top five is completed by Foo Fighters' Sonic Highways.

Bette Midler's new girl group song collection It's The Girls enters the chart at number six, and gives the iconic singer her first top ten studio album in almost 24 years.

One Direction Announce Brand New Album!

One Direction have confirmed details of their new album FOUR.

"We hope you enjoy it and we can't wait for you to listen to the album in full. Thank you, you guys mean the world to us."

FOUR is the follow-up to previous record Midnight Memories

One Direction Set To Score Christmas Number 1

Sam Bailey is on course to score her first ever number one this weekend as the new X Factor champ is currently leading the Christmas chart with her winner's single 'Skyscraper' while One Direction have climbed back to the top spot with their 'Midnight Memories' album.

The UK midweek chart shows Sam, 36, who was crowned the winner of this year's X Factor on Sunday, is way ahead of her competition in the form of Pharrell Williams and his upbeat single 'Happy,' after shifting an incredible 67,000 copies of her Demi Lovato cover as of midnight last night.

Speaking about the possibility of scoring the 2013 Christmas number one, Sam told the Official Charts Company: “I listen to the Christmas Number 1 countdown every year, so to think my single is in the running is just amazing.”

Pharrell's 'Happy' is an unlikely candidate for the festive chart-topper however, it's popularity has soared since the producer premiered the 24-hour-long music video last month. The song features on the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack.

Trailing behind in third place is Leona Lewis' Christmas song 'One More Sleep' while Avicii's 'Hey Brother' has slipped two places to four and AC/DC have debuted at five with their 1979 single 'Highway To Hell' which has re-entered the charts due to a campaign to get it to number one this weekend.

Over on the album charts, One Direction have reclaimed their position at the top with 'Midnight Memories' which spent two weeks at number one earlier this month but they could easily be knocked off by Robbie Williams' 'Swings Both Ways' which has hovered in and out of the top spot for weeks.

One Direction Snag Fastest Selling Album Title

One Direction have claimed the fastest-selling UK album of the year so far.

The boyband's latest collection Midnight Memories has sold 187,660 copies so far this week, with a further 48 hours of sales yet to be added to that total.

It means they have already bettered the UK's previous fastest-selling album of 2013, which was Daft Punk's Random Access Memories, reports Music Week.

The French duo's latest album shifted 165,091 copies during its first week on sale back in May.

Midnight Memories has also beaten One Direction's first-week sales for their previous two albums.

Their debut Up All Night sold 138,631 during its first week back in 2011, while follow-up Take Me Home sold 155,316 copies in week one back in 2012.

What's more, One Direction's Midnight Memories is currently over 100,000 copies ahead of its nearest rival, which is Gary Barlow's Since I Saw You Last.
